Associate Solicitor – Corporate, Commercial & General Practice
Admiralty, Hong Kong
1–3 years’ PQE · Newly qualified solicitors also considered
The opportunity
We are looking for a proactive and commercially minded Associate to join our team, with a varied practice spanning corporate, commercial and general legal matters.
You will advise on business agreements, company law, corporate transactions and day-to-day legal and operational issues, alongside employment, civil litigation, trust and other general legal matters. The role will include providing ongoing legal support to clients, responding to a range of legal queries and working closely with clients and colleagues to address legal risks and practical business needs.
This role is suited to someone who enjoys varied legal work, takes a practical approach to problem-solving and is keen to develop both advisory and contentious experience. It offers direct client contact and opportunities to develop your drafting, analytical and matter-management skills, with supervision appropriate to your experience.
We welcome applications from Hong Kong-qualified solicitors with 1–3 years’ post-qualification experience in corporate, commercial and/or general practice work. Newly qualified solicitors with relevant exposure during their training contract and an interest in developing a broad practice will also be considered.
Key responsibilities
Responsibilities will be allocated according to your experience and will include:
- Advising clients on a broad range of general legal matters and day-to-day business and personal legal issues, including ad hoc queries and identifying issues requiring specialist input.
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements, and assisting with corporate transactions, company secretarial and governance matters.
- Advising on employment matters, including contracts, policies, terminations and related disputes.
- Handling civil litigation and dispute resolution matters, from pre-action advice through to hearings and settlement, including advocacy where appropriate to your experience.
- Assisting with trust, regulatory and compliance matters.
- Communicating clearly and promptly with clients on advice, progress and costs, and liaising with counsel and other professional advisers.
- Conducting legal research and managing files, documentation and deadlines.
- Working collaboratively across practice areas and supporting trainees and junior colleagues where appropriate.
- Assisting with other advisory, transactional and contentious matters as client needs require.
What we are looking for
- Admission as a solicitor in Hong Kong, ideally with 1–3 years’ PQE (newly qualified solicitors with relevant training experience will be considered).
- Experience in corporate, commercial and/or general practice work, with a sound grounding in commercial contracts and company law.
- Interest in developing a broad practice across different areas of law; prior experience in every area is not required.
- Strong research, drafting and analytical skills and close attention to detail.
- A practical, commercial approach and the ability to explain legal advice clearly.
- Excellent written and spoken English; Chinese language skills preferred, but not essential.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines.
- Good judgment, discretion and a strong sense of ownership of your work.
- The ability to work collaboratively and take on increasing responsibility for matters.
