Toby Wai


Toby Wai is a Consultant at TITUS.

Toby’s practice centres on OTC derivatives, repo, structured products and financial regulation, complemented by broad experience across syndicated and bilateral loans, mergers and acquisitions, Listing Rules compliance, capital markets, employment, property, dispute resolution, and general corporate and commercial matters.

He previously served as in-house counsel at J.P. Morgan and Huatai Securities. Before moving in-house, he practised at an international law firm, having trained at one of the largest independent Hong Kong law firms. His work at Huatai won the China Business Law Journal’s In-house Counsel Award for Securitisation, and his team was named Innovative In-House Team of the Year by Asian Legal Business.

Toby serves as Chairman of the Appeal Tribunal (Buildings Ordinance), and as a member of the Hong Kong Lawyer Editorial Board, the Working Party for In-House Lawyers, and the Islamic Affairs Working Party of the Law Society of Hong Kong. He is also Legal Advisor to the Board of The New Normal Charity, and was formerly an Adviser on the Panel of Film Censorship Advisers.

Admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong, Toby also holds the PRC Legal Professional Qualification Certificate and has the right to practise PRC law. He holds an MSc in Law and Finance and an LLB (Senior Status) from Queen Mary, University of London, and an LLB from the China University of Political Science and Law.

Cantonese is Toby’s mother tongue, and he speaks English and Mandarin at native level.
